You may fart many times a day, but sometimes you can experience “hot farts” and feel weird. These farts may feel warmer than the other ones. The farts remain the same, but there are several internal and external factors that may result in burning sensations.

Keep reading to find what causes warm farts and what you can do to control them.

What causes hot farts?

Each time you fart, the temperature remains the same, but sometimes you can feel the warmth.

Lower Gas
If you have less gas to lose, the toots may seem warmer. The reason is the force that is exerted to pass the gas quickly and empty the rectum.

Diarrhea
When you have diarrhea, the bowel movements increase, which makes the skin lining your rectum and anus sensitive. The temperature of farts remains the same during diarrhea. The sensitivity is what gives you hot farts.

Eating Spicy Food
Eating spicy foods can be one of the prominent causes of warm farts. Spicy foods contain capsaicin that causes burning sensations on the tongue, and they inflict similar effects on the anus when you poop.

Spicy food isn’t directly responsible for turning the farts warmer, but it can irritate the skin surrounding your anus. You will feel the farts are warmer than usual.

Tight Clothing
Wearing tight pants or underwear can give you hot farts. This is because when you pass the wind, it will stay longer around the bum before passing through the pants.

4 ways to get rid of hot farts

The current condition of your GI system can influence what temperature you feel when you fart. The treatments below can be helpful in preventing burning farts and help eliminate other stomach issues.

Eat more fibrous foods.
Eating more fiber leads to better GI health. Veggies, fruits, whole grains, and beans are healthy sources of fiber. It’ll minimize the chances of constipation and force uninterrupted bowel movements.

Add herbs to your diet.
Cinnamon, ginger are herbs that can improve the health of the GI system. Peppermint also soothes your intestines. Add these to your diet.

Drink plenty water
Carbonated drinks can be a nightmare for your GI system. They lead to increased production of gas in the stomach. To lower the gas on your stomach, go with still drinks such as tea, wine, and water. Drinking lots of water throughout the day will lower the risk of constipation.

Avoid spicy food
If you are experiencing interrupted bowel movements and hot farts, cut down your intake of spicy foods. Some ingredients found in spicy foods can irritate the sensitive rectum.

When should you see a doctor?

Burning farts are not something to worry about. However, if you’re experiencing any additional problems, you may have a digestive disorder. In case you feel pain, nausea, or vomiting, see a doctor.
